Football Practice: Day Five

Doing a feature interview after practice and writing the story on deadline is never an easy thing. Every now and then, you just have to make it happen. That’s the situation I was in today, which explains why the post practice superlatives are a little late. But don’t worry. Here they are. Play of the Day: I’ve [...]

Mississippi State at Arkansas baseball: Sunday doubleheader blog

Game 2 postgame Game finished 12-4 Mississippi State, ending Arkansas’ SEC winning streak at eight games. On a positive note for the Hogs, this was another SEC series win for the Razorbacks, marking the first time since 2007 Arkansas has won three straight SEC series. The Hogs still lead the overall SEC race by one game over [...]

Football Practice: Day Four

For all the buildup and tantalizing possibilities, Arkansas’ scrimmage was somewhat of a letdown today. It was only 93 plays. We got used to those epic, all-day scrimmages last spring and maybe we forgot that they don’t always have to stretch as long. It’s clear Arkansas accomplished exactly what it wanted to today. The offensive coaches were [...]

Scrimmage Stats

Here are the stats I took at the scrimmage today. But there’s a disclaimer: These aren’t official. Just take them for what they’re worth and don’t hold me to it if I’m a yard or two off here and there. PASSING Ryan Mallett: 11 of 25, 160 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT Tyler Wilson: 6 of 14, 71 [...]

Mississippi State at Arkansas, baseball Saturday blog

Game 1 complete (Arkansas 20, Miss. State 9) Okay, here’s the deal. We finally finished the first game of this series as the two teams slugged it out in sluggish conditions to the tune of a 20-9 Arkansas win. The Hogs actually led, 20-3, before Justin Wells allowed six Bulldogs runs in the ninth inning alone. [...]

Scrimmage Over

Arkansas just wrapped up its first spring scrimmage inside the Walker Pavilion. For the Razorbacks’ standards, it wasn’t that long — 93 plays. I’ll have notes, quotes and stats to offer in a little while, but for now I can say it was a good day for the running backs. Each one seemed to leave an impression. [...]

Football Wrap: Day Three

Just got done filing a story and notebook from Friday’s practice. It was a hard-hitting day. The Razorbacks put on the pads for the first time and held a full-contact practice. Petrino said Arkansas looks much more aggressive and physical than it did last year at this time, which is a good sign since they [...]

Gillispie out at Kentucky

John Pelphrey's alma mater finally pulled the trigger and dismissed Billy Gillispie as its basketball coach Friday. After only two years, Gillispie is out at Kentucky, and Arkansas' coach has been tossed into the mix — albeit his name surely sits far down UK's list.
