It may be the end of May, but there’s still plenty of Arkansas-related news to pay attention to this weekend.
Here’s a quick rundown of everything:
• The most talked about is coming out of Norman, Okla., where the Arkansas baseball team opens NCAA Regional play against Washington State today at 1 p.m. The Razorbacks are trying to advance to an NCAA Super Regional for the first time since 2004. Ryan Malashock is over there and wrote about the Hogs’ thirst to advance in today’s paper. He also gives us a notebook full of information, including an update Scott Lyons who is expected to return to the lineup as Arkansas’ designated hitter.
• The Arkansas men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action this weekend, too, at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Louisville, Kent. The Razorbacks are looking forward to hosting the NCAA Championships back here in Fayetteville from June 10-13, but Paul Boyd writes that Arkansas is taking this regional seriously. The goal for the men is to advance 14-16 to the championships.
• One Arkansas team is gunning for a national championship this weekend. The Arkansas men’s golf team is having a solid run at the NCAA Championships in Ohio. The Razorbacks finished tied for third after 54 holes, which means they’ve advanced to the Round of 8. Arkansas, which is seeded fourth, plays Washington, the fifth seed, in match play today. Here’s a link to the tee times.
