It’s about 4 p.m. here in Omaha, and from the press box, I’m watching the continuation of a downpour out on the Rosenblatt Stadium field. Several of Southern Mississippi’s players are on the field playing catch, but none of the College World Series teams have been able to practice for a few hours. The tarp has been on the infield since 11:30 a.m. Luckily for Arkansas, its practice wrapped up at 11 a.m. The Razorbacks worked out for an hour — taking infield and batting practice — before signing autographs for a half-hour.
They’ll have the afternoon off before returning to the stadium for a barbecue and the CWS opening ceremonies. After Friday’s practice, senior Scott Lyons sounded eager as ever to get Saturday’s 1 p.m. game with Cal State Fullerton started. He said “it feels like we’ve been here a week already.”
“We’re beyond excited, and we just want to get this thing started,” Lyons said. “We’re so ready.”
I took photos of Arkansas’ day. Check back later for stories, but these photos will have to suffice for now.

I parked in the Rosenblatt Stadium parking lot at about 8:15 a.m., and these were the only tailgaters I could find. Those Texas fans are serious, huh?

Freshman outfielder Jarrod McKinney lines a pitch during batting practice, while Van Horn and Jorn hit grounders to Arkansas' infielders.

Van Horn took a quick break from practice to talk with ESPN analyst Kyle Peterson, an Omaha native who pitched for Stanford in the CWS.
