Want some Monday news?
Arkansas defensive tackle Lavunce Askew won’t face a felony charge in connection with stealing a laptop computer after the victim informed Washington County prosecutors that he didn’t want to press charges against the sophomore.
Askew, 20, was arrested May 30 after he admitted to Fayetteville police that he had stolen a laptop computer worth $1,300 from a man’s home, according to a preliminary police report. The report said the sophomore had the computer in his hands when he met with police.
Askew’s arraignment was scheduled for this morning, but charges weren’t filed against him.
Matt Durrett, chief deputy prosecuting attorney for Washington County, said Monday afternoon that the felony charge of theft of property against Askew is in the process of being dismissed.
Durrett said he spoke with the victim — an unidentified man — who said he didn’t want to press charges against Askew because the laptop computer was returned undamaged.
Durrett said the theft of property charge hasn’t been dismissed yet, but it will be made official once a judge signs an order throwing out the charge.
Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino suspended Askew indefinitely from the football team following his arrest. There is no word yet on whether Monday’s development will change Askew’s status.

Askew did the right thing by returning this man’s property, and the owner did the right thing by not taking futher legal action against him.
If Askew is reinstated to the football team, I think Bobby Petrino will make sure Askew realizes the mistake he initially made.
Hopefully, a valuable lesson will be learned here.
