We’re doing a vacation rotation here at The Morning News.

After being gone for two weeks for a very relaxing and much-needed trip to Florida, I’m back in the office today and trying to get caught up here on the blog and on Twitter (@NWARobbie and @NWAOnlineHogs).

Meanwhile, Alex Abrams, who was kept pretty busy the past couple weeks in my absence, is out on vacation this week. He’s trying to sneak in one more week of rest and relaxation before things really heat up next week. So you’re stuck with just me this week.

I know I’ve missed a lot from Jason Henry’s departure, Stefan Welsh’s suspension, Broderick Green’s clearance (or not), and a myriad of contract extensions being awarded to Arkansas sports people. I hear Ryan Mallett’s finger is healed, football players are wearing hard hats and smashing rocks and longtime track and field assistant Dick Booth has been fired.

I’m spending much of today playing catch up after being away for two weeks. Reading stories, checking e-mail, blogging, tweeting, etc., etc. If I come across anything newsworthy I’ll be sharing it with you.

Until then, here are some dates to remember as football season creeps closer and closer.

July 22-24 — SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala.

Aug. 6 — First day of football practice

Aug. 14 — Arkansas Kickoff Luncheon at NWA Convention Center

Sept. 5 — Season opener vs. Missouri State
