Beverley Going Back Overseas

Got a little basketball nugget for you this afternoon.

Former Arkansas guard Patrick Beverley, who was selected by the L.A. Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft and traded to the Miami Heat, will have to wait on playing in the NBA a little longer. According to a couple of reports, Beverley is going back overseas and will play for the Greek team Olympiacos.

Not necessarily a bad move for Beverley even though his goal was to play in the NBA next season. The Greek league has plenty of talent. He’ll also be playing for the team that signed former Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Childress last year and former NBA shooting guard Von Wafer earlier this month.

(UPDATE)

A friend of mine who covers the Heat for the Miami Herald, Michael Wallace, has more on Beverley’s move to Greece on the Herald’s Web site this afternoon.

He got the story confirmed through Beverley’s agent, who said the 21-year-old is going overseas to play point guard at a “high level.” Beverley’s rights will be retained by the Heat, butplans to be back next season.

“It was just a move we all felt was in the best interest of Patrick and the team,” Bradbury told the Miami Herald. “It’s an opportunity for Patrick to get a chance to really focus on playing point guard at a high level. We expect him to come back to the Heat next season ready to contribute.”
