Morning Links and a Correction

Wanted to start this morning off with a correction.

I made a mistake in today’s notes with several Auburn offensive statistics. The problem, it seems, is I looked at the wrong Auburn notes package I had downloaded onto my laptop. Instead of Auburn’s Arkansas game notes, I looked at Tennessee week. Not good.

So Auburn’s rushing average should be (253.8 yards). It’s total yardage should be (512.8 yards). Ben Tate is averaging 108 yards a game and is second in the league in rushing. Onterio McCalebb is averaging 83.2 yards a game and is fifth.

I apologize about the errors.

We have corrected them for the story online, but it obviously can’t get fixed in the newspaper.

The good news is that it doesn’t change the point of the note. Arkansas still knows it must stop Auburn’s rushing attack when the Tigers come to town this weekend. The Tigers may run a spread offense, but their ground game remains key to the success.

Anyway, let’s move on to some links.

• Alex Abrams wrote a story today on TE D.J. Williams and RB Michael Smith. Both players combined to account for 46.8 percent of the team’s yards last season. This year, it’s just 22.7 percent. Smith said it’s frustrating, but he has to produce more when he does touch the ball.

• In my notes (which should be corrected online): Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said Arkansas’ defense “can’t stop a cold” and the Hogs will lose by three touchdowns, CB Darius Winston is still working back from an ankle injury, and how the early kick alters the schedule.

• Charles Goldberg of the Birmingham News has an interesting story today on the one-year anniversary of former Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin’s firing. One year later, things are obviously looking up for Auburn under Gene Chizik.

• Andy Bitter of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer checked in on Auburn’s secondary as it prepares for Arkansas’ passing attack.
