SEC Reprimands Petrino For Criticizing Officials

And the saga over the officiating crew that worked last week’s Arkansas-Florida game continues.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino was reprimanded by the SEC office for publicly criticizing the officials. Here’s what the league office had to say:

Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino for his public comments earlier this week.

“Coach Petrino has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics,” Slive said. “SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all public criticism of officials.”

Hey Mike Slive! If you guys had been doing your job instead of looking the other way when Geogria got a screwing at LSU, there wouldn’t be a problem. If our coach hadn’t have spoken up and FORCED you to do something, the crew you just suspended would be ready to embarrass the league again in their next assignment. He did the right thing and you can quote all the sections and bylaws you want, but the SEC office (this includes you & Redding) should be the ones being publicly reprimanded.

Non-violent protest is justified in the face of institutional evil.

    F&%K the SEC!

Sometimes doing the right thing comes with a cost. The team, students, and fans are all supportive of CBP doing the right thing, and going to bat to support the HOGS. We finally have a BOSS HOG who shows he cares more about his team than himself.

I knew from the start when we started complaining to the SEC about the officiating and they publicly suspended the game officials that we would pay for it. Well it started with a reprimand of Petrino and now we will get bad calls in all other sports but the SEC will be clean, the official are so mad right now that they will team up and make us pay. Now the penalties that you normally get away with will be called and there is nothing you can do about it. Have you ever been mad at someone and told yourself you would get them back and no one will know, well hold on razorbacks here it comes.

    Hey,
You must call a spade a spade & you gotta call it like it is!! Unlike these officials.
Hey, they are supposed to be professionals! Didn’t they get paid??
When did being truthfull and holding individuals accountable for their actions become wrong. I guess when someone does something wrong, no one has the right or obligation to bring attention to it, sounds like the SEC office is full of Blue Blooded Democrats to me! You know, protect the offender and persecute the whistle blower, certianly no pun intended!!!!
I respect coach Petrino for his comments, he knowingly took the heat for speaking out for his players and the fans!!
Thats the kinda man I’ll to to battle with and for!!!!!!!!!!
Seems the SEC office wants to hold Coach Petrino accountable for speaking the truth about what all America saw and already knew for themselves, there were no secrets revealed; the SEC was already tarnished by these officials actions on the field in this game and from LSU vs Georgia.
Hello, the Hogs were wronged at least 4 times with blatant wrong calls and several non calls; it cost them the game! They couldent even call it badly on the other end of the field. That leads me to believe the officials could only see RED, which left “Hog” and football fans across America seeing RED!
So, I guess the SEC office is also going to publically reprimand the Network and the Announcers for their remarks about the inept calls and non calls. I doubt it; after all, the Network signs the check to the SEC office. The money always seems to find its way into these things!
Can you say, “the SEC powers that be want Florida and Alabama to be undefeated when they play in the SEC Title Game”. Well in my opinion, one of these teams deserves to be undefeated, and it’s not the Gators; cause we all know what really happend.

I just have three questions for the SEC office; does that officiating team still get paid during their suspension, and why do they still have a job with the SEC, aren’t we supposed to be the elite confrence?

Seems like only the “elite” officials should be calling “elite” football games for the “elite” football players. “Elite” is the perception the SEC promotes.
This officiating crew and their superiors are not on the same level as these players; the players are much better at what they do.

Hey coach, keep talking. I’m sure the real “Hog Nation” will support you. Heck, i’d even throw a few 10 spots in the plate to help pay any fines!!

I thought that BP was very restrained when answering questions. He could have said a LOT more.

If Petrino had not spoken up, Slive would have done nothing. I despise Petrino but I despise cowards like Slive more who have to be shamed and prodded into doing the right thing. In this (one) case. Petrino was right.

  9. Bamko Says:

Reprimanded for saying what anyone watching the game SCREAMED at the screen? And after the officials were reprimanded, Indicating they were in error? Seems like you should be allowed to voice your displeasure, especially when video evidence AND the SEC agree that the officials were out of line.

I am a Florida AND Arkansas fan, and was looking forward to a good competitive game, and the officiating ruined it for me. If FLorida needs to have the officials make those kind of calls, inorder to win, then they have no business being ranked #1.

I hope Arkansas keeps its head up, and Florida goes out there and PROVE they deserve to be ranked #1.

Oh, and SEC, and Mike Slive in particular, you are handling this wrong. I would of recommended you suspend the officials, like you did, then pardon any “reasonably understandably passionate talk” and announce something like :”We do not agree with the official’s behavior, and actions have been taken to attempt to prevent this from happening. We will investigate further, but we do not believe that this was intentional, or any motive was behind these errors. Anyone with contrary proof is encouraged to contact us at XXX_XXX_XXXX”

But acting like this? I know I had to turn the channel because I did not want to cuss and get any more upset infront of my dear wife.

Let’s give a nod to great sportsmanship, None of the officials were shot at, or attacked on that dark day. Thank goodness.

I would still check their bank accounts and interview people who know them though, it sure looked like they were vested in the outcome!
