Big play quarter, but the Razorbacks can’t gain any ground on the Rebels.
In fact, Ole Miss is on the verge of adding to its seven-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
Here are some notes:
• The Dexter McCluster show continues in the second half. Arkansas has done a good job of slowing him out of the backfield, but McCluster has been impressive in the pass game. In fact, we were just told McCluster now has gone over the 100-yard receiving mark. So McCluster has 100-plus rushing and 100-plus receiving. That’s an impressive accomplishment.
• It was a big-play quarter. The Rebels grabbed a 24-10 lead when Jevan Snead connected with McCluster for a 64-yard touchdown pass. It was a simple screen pass that McCluster took to the house. Arkansas didn’t look like it had a very good shot at getting him down at any point.
• The Razorbacks got their own big play in the quarter when Carlton Salters pulled in a 58-yard touchdown pass. Salters wasn’t the intended target on the play, but if it works it works. Mallett heaved a deep ball downfield toward Greg Childs, but the ball bounced out of Mallett’s hands and into Salters’ It was the first catch of the season for Salters. And the first touchdown catch of his career.
• Arkansas continues to be opportunistic on defense, getting their third turnover. Andru Stewart picked off a pass and it set up a FG. Arkansas has forced seven turnovers in the past two games and hasn’t committed a turnover in that stretch. Plus-7? That’s pretty good. It has at least kept the Hogs in the game this afternoon.
• One good moment for the Razorbacks. Place kicker Alex Tejada made a 44-yard FG in the third quarter. Tejada has been the subject of much criticism after missing two FG attempts at Florida. However, he knocked his longest of the season through the uprights.
