Ole Miss 30, Arkansas 17

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino summed this game up best during the postgame press conference.

“That’s about as disappointing as it gets,” Petrino said. “They beat us in all phases. They beat our defense up. They beat our offense up and they won the special teams. We didn’t match thier intensity early. We didn’t come out and execute on offense and had a hard time protecting the quarterback and running the ball. So it’s about as disappointing as you can get after having a great battle last week and then taking a huge step backwards.”

Arkansas falls to 3-4, 1-3 in the SEC. It ends a six-game stretch in which the Hogs played four ranked teams. And Ole Miss, which was ranked in the top 10 in the preseason before struggling. Arkansas will come home after this disappointment and try to bounce back against Eastern Michigan. It’s the first of four straight home games. They’re pretty important for Arkansas’ bowl hopes, too.

“I felt like we really needed this game,” Petrino said. “To get the program going in the direction I want it to go this was a big game for us. We’re going to have to come back and battle real hard now. We’ve got to get some wins. We’ve got to get in a bowl game so we can practice more and work our young guys. That’s how you get the program better. You get more practices because you’re in a bowl game and obviously this is a setback. We would’ve been sitting in pretty good shape with a win here. Now it’s really a one game battle every week.”

We’ve got to run and catch the plane to get back to NW Arkansas. But make sure you read more coverage in tomorrow’s paper.

Yes it was a step back for Arkansas, but it was a bigger step forward for Ole Miss. They played a career game. Ole Miss could have beaten any team they would have faced out there today.

I hate to see the Hogs lose. We really needed this win after our tough loss against Florida, but Ole Miss came out clicking on all cylinders. Every time we capitalized on a break like a road team needs to to be successful…Ole Miss just came back clicking.

Arkansas didn’t lose this game. Ole Miss just came out and won it.

Considering we dropped 9 passes, I think we gave the win to them just as much as I believe they took it.
Plays are called differently when playing from behind, and we all know how Nutt falls apart in those kinds of situations.
If we catch less than half those passes, it’s a very different ballgame.
