It’s Sunday morning, which means it’s time for coffee and some talk about my AP Top 25 ballot. (For the record, I ran out of coffee earlier this week, so I’m writing this cold turkey.)
Without any further delays (unless you have some coffee for me), here’s my latest ballot. And as usual, feel free to let me know if you disagree with where I ranked a team.
1. Alabama (Sure, the Crimson Tide need to make a last-second block to hold off Tennessee, but that’s not enough for me to drop ‘Bama out of the top spot. Nick Saban’s team still has the most impressive resume up to this point in the season, and it’s the time of year where winning is more important than looking good. There are no style points here.)
2. Florida (Give Urban Meyer the edge over his former offensive coordinator, Dan Mullen, who’s now trying to rebuild Mississippi State.)
3. Texas
4. USC
5. Boise State
6. Cincinnati
7. Iowa (Like Alabama, Iowa did just enough to hold on. The Hawkeyes are still undefeated, but it’s going to take some impressive wins instead of more nail-biters like Saturday’s 15-13 win over Michigan State to move into the top 5. Or Iowa could get some help from some higher ranked teams losing. I know I said there are no style points, but Iowa doesn’t have nearly the same resume as Alabama.)
8. TCU (Even though TCU pulled off an impressive 38-7 win over BYU, the Horned Frogs didn’t move up in my ballot. I considered leap-frogging them over Iowa, but I still feel Iowa’s resume is more impressive than TCU’s to this point. By the way, did you get the whole leap-frog pun? Wow, I need coffee.)
9. Oregon
10. LSU
11. Georgia Tech
12. Penn State
13. Virginia Tech
14. Oklahoma State
15. Ohio State
16. Miami (The Hurricanes dropped from No. 9 to No. 16 in my ballot. I thought seven spots was enough for the Hurricanes, who suffered a heartbreaking loss to Clemson in overtime. Miami is still a very good two-loss teeam, so I didn’t want to drop them too far. But losing Clemson knocked them out of my top 15.)
17. Houston
18. Utah
19. West Virginia
20. Pittsburgh
21. South Carolina
22. BYU (Dropped from No. 16 to No. 22 following a one-sided loss to TCU.)
23. Ole Miss (I’m sure some Houston Nutt haters will argue with me putting Ole Miss back in the top 25. But the Rebels’ only two losses came to a pair of ranked teams in Alabama and South Carolina. And Ole Miss looked like a top 25 team in its impressive win over Arkansas.)
24. Notre Dame
25. Arizona
The following teams fell out of my top 25: Texas Tech, Kansas, South Florida, Nebraska.

USC did just enough to hold off Oregon State at home. Cincinnati soundly beat Oregon State in Corvallis. Pretty fair ballot though.
