Words of Wisdom – Montana Style

Arkansas has lost two straight games. The Razorbacks were embarrassed in the last one, falling to Ole Miss 30-17.

So how did they respond in Tuesday’s practice? Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino explained:

“They had a good attitude,” Petrino said. “Like one of my old buddies said in Montana, if you fight enough you’re going to get your butt whipped once in awhile. But you’ve got to jump right back up and do it again.”

With that, here are a couple notes from practice:

• Getting TE D.J. Williams on the same page as QB Ryan Mallett appears to be an emphasis this week. Petrino said the Razorbacks scripted more plays for Williams during 7-on-7 drills during Tuesday’s practice. The hope is that it carries over to Saturday’s game.

“We’ve got to try to almost start forcing that a little bit,” Petrino said.

• Arkansas’ receivers are trying to bounce back from their drops in practice, too. Once again, Petrino turned to an anology to describe what the Razorbacks are being told about the mistakes.

“I told them, playing receiver is kind of like being a good shooter,” Petrino said. “You don’t see Michael Jordan quit shooting when he misses a few. Or Kobe (Bryant). So if you drop one you drop one. You’ve got to come back the next play and play your butt off and play hard.”

• Personnel news: Jerell Norton and David Gordon were lined up with the first team at CB during the portion of the practice open to the media. It’s a sign of where the Razorbacks are depth-wise at the position. Ramon Broadway and Andru Stewart were not out there during the open portion of practice. Rudell Crim was out there, but appeared to be limited by a hip pointer.
