Changes in Razorbacks Coverage

If you live in NW Arkansas you know the news by now. If you don’t, here it is: Things are changing in the newspaper industry in this region.

The merger between the two major newspaper companies is producing a new venture — Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC — which will begin distributing its new product beginning Sunday. I won’t go through every detail, but will share this: It means the Arkansas Razorbacks coverage you’ve been getting here on the Hog Blog and at Razorback Central from The Morning News sports staff will end after Saturday’s game.

But don’t worry. There’s a new place to read all about the Razorbacks starting Sunday.

I’m not part of the new company, but will remain with Stephens Media to cover the Razorbacks. I will be at practices, games and press conferences, filing daily stories that will appear on the Web and in newspapers owned by Stephens Media throughout the state. We are still working on all the technicalities, but I will continue to supplement the newspaper and Web copy with a new blog and Twitter account, too.

Starting Sunday, my work will appear on the Arkansas News Bureau Web site. You can find it by clicking this link. Stories should be under the link with my name (Robbie Neiswanger) on the right. The new Hog Blog (if the name sticks) will be found on the site, too. Or by clicking this link. And don’t forget, columnist Harry King is still with Stephens Media and will be working with me on Razorbacks coverage.

For those that follow me on Twitter, I don’t anticipate any changes there. I plan to keep my account, which is @NWARobbie. You can reach me at my new e-mail address rneiswanger@arkansasnews.com.

Now … onto a personal note: This has been an emotional week in the industry in NW Arkansas. I’m very fortunate and thankful Stephens Media has given me the opportunity to continue to do what I love. But I can’t jump into this new venture without expressing my sincere gratitude and admiration for the talented friends I had the privilege of working side-by-side with during my time in The Morning News sports department.

No need to list names. You guys know who you are. You’ve been the best!

Robbie, what is going on with the Morning News? I live in New York and have not heard. My dad, Guy Barnes, was a writer for the Morning News for years. He saw a trend where MBAs were taking over the newspaper business, not newspaper men, and he was afraid that this was negatively affecting the quality of the product. Is the Morning News going to be better or worse for this change? I wish you well in your future endeavors.

Good luck Robbie – Keep up the good work. The ADG is crazy is they they think I’m paying to read about the Razorbacks on WholeHogSports when their are so many other options. I’ll keep follwing you on Twitter too.
