Former Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones was arrested Monday night for possession of a controlled substance. Jones was booked in at the Washington County jail at 6:21 p.m. after an appearance in Drug Court Monday afternoon.

According to the Washington County prosecutor’s office, Jones failed an alcohol test, which was a direct violation of terms given to him under the Washington County Drug Court program. Because of the violation, Jones was given the option of spending a week in jail or spending six weeks in a residential drug program — he opted for a week in jail, and won’t be released until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Jones originally found himself in trouble last July for felony possession of cocaine. The Jacksonville Jaguars receiver was arrested after Fayetteville police say they saw him using a credit card to cut up cocaine in a parked SUV behind Dickson Street. 

The Fort Smith native pleaded not guilty to the felony charge, but later avoided facing a trial by agreeing to enter Washington County Drug Court. Jones ended his most productive season in the NFL by serving a three-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
