Felix Jones, Dick Butkus Coming For RazorFest

I just got back from a news conference to announce this year’s plans for the RazorFest activities to be held before Arkansas’ Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 18.

As usual, several former Razorbacks are expected to come back to sign autographs. But there will be two former players who might have longer lines than others: former Arkansas running back Felix Jones and Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus.

Jones is an easy choice. He starred in the backfield with two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden before being selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft.

Butkus, however, isn’t from Arkansas and never played for the Razorbacks. He played at Illinois. So why the interest for him? Well,  because he’s considered arguably the best linebacker to ever play in the NFL and his popularity hasn’t diminished much since he retired.

After all, who could forget his acting in the classic ’80s TV show, “My Two Dads?”

A Break From Basketball

Yes, Arkansas lost again. Yes, the Razorbacks now have lost eight of nine to start SEC play and will take on Kentucky on Saturday. Yes, your frustration and disappointment in the team continues to grow.

So how about an off topic blog?

See Felix run.

                     Â

This came across the Google Alerts yesterday and I figured it was worth posting. DallasCowboys.com had a story on running back Felix Jones and his rehabilitation from toe surgery and hamstring problems. You can read it by clicking here.

The article says Jones hasn’t completely recovered from the injuries but isn’t far off. In fact, he is expecting to participate in the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) in May or by the start of mini-camp in June.

We all know that Jones was a man of few words when he was at Arkansas, but did offer a peak into how he felt watching the team the second half of the season. Here is what he said: “It was really frustrating not to play with my teammates. I thought I would be able to play through the injuries, but the doctors wanted me to have the surgery. It’s not easy to watch the guys, but I understand. I’ll be ready to go this year.”

That’s good news for Jones and for Cowboys fans (Admittedly, I am not one of those. Sorry, can’t stand the Cowboys. I root for the Redskins).

Felix Jones Done For Season

In case you’ve missed it, former Arkansas star and current Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ligament beneath his left big toe.

Jones, who had looked impressive before suffering a string injuries earlier this season, will need surgery on the toe. It could take up to six months for him to recover.
