Arkansas finally acknowledged Monday that the Razorbacks added Mississippi prep point guard Julysses Nobles to their 2009-10 recruiting class.
Nobles faxed in his letter-of-intent to Arkansas last Wednesday, on the first day of the spring signing period, according to Callaway High (Jackson, Miss.) coach Wayne Brent.
Coach John Pelphrey had this to say about Nobles, a 6-foot-1, 170-pounder who was one of three finalists for the state of Mississippi’s Mr. Basketball Award:
“We are very excited to have Julysses Nobles as a Razorback and in our program,” Pelphrey said in an Arkansas release. “He played against strong competition in Mississippi and won a state championship. He’s a really good player and a tough kid. He’s committed to playing both offense and defense, and he’s committed to being a student-athlete.”

Well, the signing ceremony is over and the fax has been sent in.
Wayne Brent, the boys basketball coach at Callaway High in Jackson, Miss., told Hawgs Illustrated’s Dudley Dawson a few minutes ago that point guard Julysses Nobles signed and faxed in his letter-of-intent to Arkansas this afternoon.
A finalist for Mississippi’s Mr. Basketball award, Nobles (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) chose Arkansas over Iowa, Wichita State, UAB, Tulane and Georgia State. Florida State also recruited Nobles, who averaged 21 points, six assists and five rebounds this past season as his Callaway team won a state championship.
Nobles joins John Pelphrey’s 2009-10 recruiting class, which also includes West Memphis center Anthony Borden (7-0, 230), power forward Marshawn Powell (6-8, 250) of The Miller (Va.) School and Cloud County (Kan.) Community College wing Jemal Farmer (6-5, 215).

Arkansas coach John Pelphrey picked up a commitment late Tuesday night, giving him four players now in his 2009-10 recruiting class.
The player is Julysses Nobles, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard from Callaway High in Jackson, Miss. Nobles was one of three finalists for the Mr. Basketball award in Mississippi after leading Callaway to the Class 4A state championship.
Nobles committed late Tuesday night on a Jackson TV newscast, picking the Razorbacks over Iowa, Wichita State, UAB, Tulane and Georgia State, according to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. He averaged 21 points, six assists and five rebounds this past season.
He figures to give Arkansas a much-needed true point guard as a backup to sophomore-to-be Courtney Fortson, who logged too many minutes this season.
Nobles joins West Memphis center Anthony Borden (7-0, 230), power forward Marshawn Powell (6-8, 250) of The Miller (Va.) School and Cloud County (Kan.) Community College wing Jemal Farmer (6-5, 215) in the 09-10 class.
