It’s that time of the week again. Here’s a look at the next opponent: Texas.
Texas Longhorns
Conference: Big 12
Coach: Mack Brown. The Texas coach is in his 11th season at the school. The Longhorns are 105-25 under Brown and have won 10 or more games in seven straight seasons. That includes the 2005 season in which the Longhorns went 13-0 and won the national championship.
Key Player: Quarterback Colt McCoy. The senior struggled through a junior slump, but is off to a great start in 2008. He has thrown for 510 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception against Florida Atlantic and UTEP. As a side note, was there any doubt someone named Colt McCoy was going to be a Texas quarterback? He has to have the best name of any Texas quarterback. A close second? Major Applewhite.
Famous Alumni: We’re not going to get into that. Instead, let’s take a look at some of the famous faces that have been spotted around the program. This is all according to Texas’ media guide: Cyclist Lance Armstrong, actor Matthew McConaughey, actor Kevin Costner, baseball player Nomar Garciaparra and soccer star Mia Hamm, actress Lara Flynn Boyle, actor Jake Gyllenhaal, and musician Willie Nelson.
Fun Fact: Did you know Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium will have a different look than it did the last time the Razorbacks played there in 2003? The stadium’s capacity is now close to the 100,000 mark after expansion plans in the north end zone were completed in time for this season. It is the largest stadium in the Big 12 and now becomes one of the largest in the nation.
